Teresa is passionate about helping businesses understand and develop their unique challenges, drivers and strengths to ensure they can deliver on and realise their strategic goals and objectives. With an extensive range of experience working with organisations from a variety of different sectors, Teresa welcomes the opportunity to work first hand with individuals, teams and organisations to assist them in fulfilling their potential.
After graduating from the University of Canterbury in 2002 with a Masters degree in Industrial and Organisational Psychology, Teresa slotted into the Christchurch team as a graduate in 2003. After proving herself as a worthy employee, she graduated to the South Island Managers role and then onto the National Managers role in 2009. Over her time with OPRA there probably isn’t a job / role that she hasn’t done and knows the business inside out, and her passion for the IO Psychology field makes her role at OPRA her dream job!
Teresa is a published author in both local HR-related magazines and international journals on a wide range of HR topics including selection, staff development, and predicting performance. Some of her more recent articles include a The Seven Key Success Factors to Assessment Centres and a co-authored article with Paul Wood on Effective Exit Interviewing.
Originally from a small country town in Northern Southland, Teresa still appreciates the community type mentality that still thrives in these areas. While she doesn’t long to be back where dodging sheep dung and tailing are the norm, a love of open spaces and outdoors is where Teresa prefers to spend her holiday breaks. Te Anau and the Wakitipu basin is like a second home and also where she wishes to buy a holiday home when the price is right!
Teresa recently married Kyle, an analyst / accountant from another small town, Raincliff, which to those that don’t know is closer to another small town called Timaru. With a combined passion for sport – or should we now say sport watching, and offering answers to unique questions utilising the power of Google, they are both career oriented and driven individuals.
Teresa was once a keen basketballer, touch rugby and indoor netball player, but now prefers more low impact activities! Bikram yoga (hot yoga) and ocean swimming are her newly found exercise addictions. After entering and finishing the Corsair Classic (2.8km Ocean Swim) in 2009, in 2009 / 2010 she plans to enter all six events around the country. The OPRA team will be sure to be cheering her along, but no-one has yet put their hand up to join her in the water!
